Alright, picture this. It’s late, rain’s tapping the window, and I’m thinking about bathrooms—stay with me here. Last spring, I helped my mate Liam with his flat renovation in Shoreditch. Tiny place, you know? The bathroom felt like a postage stamp. Then he went for one of those frameless shower enclosures. Honestly? Game changer.

See, it’s not just about no metal edges—though that’s part of it. It’s the whole… illusion. Like, when you use thick, clear glass without chunky frames, the light just *dances*. There’s no visual break between the tiles and the glass. Suddenly, the room doesn’t feel chopped up. I remember walking in after they’d installed it—the space seemed to breathe! It felt almost double the size, and all they did was lose the frame. Mad, isn’t it?

And here’s a detail you only notice when you’re actually living with it: the cleanup. Oh my days! With my old framed shower back in my first rental in Balham, the seals would go mouldy. I’d be scrubbing rubber gaskets every Sunday like clockwork. But frameless? Just a wipe down the glass. No nooks, no crannies. It’s blissfully simple.

But—and this is a big one—you’ve got to get the installation spot on. I saw a botched job once in a showroom in Chelsea. The glass wasn’t perfectly levelled, and the door… it never quite sealed right. Always a tiny drip on the floor. Drove the owner barmy! So it’s one of those things where skimped fitting ruins the magic.

Space maximization, though—that’s where it truly shines. Think about it. In a small bathroom, every inch counts, right? A framed enclosure visually boxes you in. But frameless? It’s like the shower area just *melts* into the room. You can use continuous flooring from the rest of the bathroom right into the shower. It creates this lovely, open flow. Liam even managed to fit a small wooden stool in the corner afterwards—unthinkable before!

It’s not for absolutely everyone, mind. Some people miss the “structure” a frame gives. But if you ask me? For that clean, expansive, almost minimalist vibe—where the room feels lighter and bigger—it’s a no-brainer. Just make sure you get a proper fitter. Trust me on that one.
